Middle School Concert Audition Requirements

As listed on the Florida All State Audition Requirements

* Please note that all percussionists will perform their major/chromatic scales on marimba/xylophone, perform a portion of the snare All State etude, and will sight read on timpani. 

All schools sending students to audition are assured a seat in the Concert Band. 

9-12 High School Symphonic Band Audition Requirements

Middle School Jazz Band Audition Requirements

Winds will prepare the Swing Etude. Rhythm will prepare the FBA All State Swing Etude. 3 select of the 7 Major Scales and the Chromatic Scale per All State requirements is also part of the audition. Sight-reading and Improvisation (optional) will be included. Students auditioning on drum set will demonstrate, per FBA All- State requirements, steady time and creativity with a Rock, Bossa Nova and Swing pattern.

High School Jazz Band Audition Requirements

The All County requirements will be drawn from the All State requirements. The prepared exercise will be the Swing Etude. Sight-reading and Improvisation (optional) will be included. Per FBA All-State requirements, students auditioning for Lead Trumpet must also do a complete audition for section trumpet. Students auditioning on drum set will demonstrate, per FBA All-State requirements, steady time and creativity with a Rock, Bossa Nova, Swing and Jazz-Samba pattern.

Gold Orchestra Winds/Percussion

The Gold Orchestra Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion positions will be offered to the highest point total students in each category. Should a student be unable/unwilling to participate, the offer will extend to the next greatest point total student and continue until all necessary seats are filled. This will be the role of the Co-Chairs and Orchestra Facilitator.
